Identify a song from an MP3 file
Wondering “what song is this audio file?” Upload your MP3 and let ClipMusic look for the title, artist, and listening links. WAV, M4A, and MP4 are also accepted.
No account required. Use at least 10 seconds of clear music for the best chance of a match. Recognition is not guaranteed.
How it works
- 01
Choose your file
Drop an MP3 into the upload area or choose a file from your device. WAV, M4A, and MP4 work too. Files can be up to 10 minutes and 64MB. Files over 60 seconds are automatically trimmed in your browser to their loudest 30 seconds.
- 02
Identify the audio
Press Identify song. Keep the page open while your file uploads and ClipMusic checks the audio for matches.
- 03
Check the results
Review matching titles and artists, then use the listening links to check which song you heard.
Tips for identifying music from a file
Start with clear music
Clips with at least 10 seconds of clear music work best. Choose a section with little talking or background noise. If you have the original file, use it instead of recording the sound through a speaker.
Choose a specific part if needed
Files up to 10 minutes and 64MB are accepted. Files over 60 seconds are automatically trimmed to their loudest 30 seconds before upload. To identify a specific part, trim it yourself to 60 seconds or less using an audio editor or your phone's built-in trim tool. There is no need to convert a supported WAV or M4A file to MP3.
Listen to confirm a match
A recording may contain more than one song. Check the returned matches against your clip. Covers, live performances, unreleased tracks, and heavily edited audio may not be recognized; try another clear section if the result is missing or incorrect.

Questions
How do I identify a song from an MP3 file?
Choose your MP3 file or drag it into the upload area, then press Identify song. For files over 60 seconds, ClipMusic prepares the loudest 30 seconds in your browser, then uploads that clip to check for matching songs. Shorter files are uploaded as they are. When a match is found, you can review the title, artist, and listening links.
What song is this audio file?
An unnamed audio file can still contain recognizable music. This MP3 song finder checks the sound itself, so you do not need to know the filename, lyrics, or artist. A match depends on the recording and the available reference tracks.
Which file formats and lengths are accepted?
You can choose MP3, WAV, M4A, or MP4 files up to 10 minutes long and 64MB. Files over 60 seconds are automatically trimmed in your browser to their loudest 30 seconds. To identify a specific part, trim it yourself to 60 seconds or less.
Do I need an account or an app?
No account or app installation is required. Choose a file from your phone or computer and identify it in your browser.
Why was my MP3 not recognized?
The music may be too quiet, too short, obscured by speech, or absent from the reference catalog. Live performances, covers, and heavily altered recordings may also fail to match. Try a different section with at least 10 seconds of clear music. Results are not guaranteed.
Can I upload a video or screen recording?
Yes, MP4 files up to 10 minutes and 64MB are accepted alongside MP3, WAV, and M4A. Files over 60 seconds are automatically trimmed to their loudest 30 seconds. For a specific song or section, trim the file yourself to 60 seconds or less.
