The Songs Going Viral in Short Videos Right Now (Mid-August 2026 Data)

Charts7 min readBy ClipMusic Team

The short version: Mid-August ClipMusic data (Aug 1–15, 2026): Aphex Twin holds the chart for a second straight month — but with a different track. "worry (Instrumental Slowed)" keeps the top spot. Roughly one in ten new tracks is a declared slowed edit, and a third of those escalate to "Super" or "Ultra" slowed — a ratio that has held perfectly steady since July.

This is the third edition of our chart built from the songs people couldn't identify on their own. Every entry started with someone pasting a short-video link into our video music finder because the sound had no usable label.

Between August 1 and August 15, 2026, that happened 12,570 times. Those attempts matched audio from 4,306 distinct videos and surfaced 2,368 tracks we had never logged before. Because we're publishing at the halfway mark, this edition covers the first fifteen days only — the September edition will close out the month.

Where This Data Comes From

Same rules as the July edition. A "recognition" is one successful match between a user-submitted video and a track; a "videos" count is the number of distinct videos a track was identified from. This is not a streaming chart — songs appear here because they were hard to find: unlabeled uploads, "original sound" posts, remixes, and tracks in languages viewers can't search by lyrics.

Three Things August's Data Says

1. Aphex Twin is a sound source now, not a song

In July, "180Db_ [130]" was the single most-identified track on our chart, pulled from 47 different videos. In August it fell to 8 — and a completely different Aphex Twin track took its place: "QKThr", an ambient miniature from 2001's Drukqs, at 15 videos. Two consecutive months of the same artist charting via two tonally opposite tracks (frenetic drill'n'bass, then a fragile piano-and-static piece) tells you editors aren't recycling one viral sound. They're mining a catalog. That's a different behavior, and it means the next surprise entry is more predictable by artist than by song.

2. "Ultra Slowed" is a plateau, not an arms race

It's tempting to look at names like "SUA CAVALONA (Hardstyle Remix) [Ultra Slowed]" and "MONTAGEM RENICHT MIX (Alternative Version Super Slowed)" and conclude the modifiers are escalating. We checked, and they aren't:

New tracks first logged in…Declared "slowed"Of those, "Super"/"Ultra"
July 2026 (5,463 tracks)476 (8.7%)173 → 36.3%
August 1–15 (2,368 tracks)226 (9.5%)81 → 35.8%

The intensifier ratio is flat to within half a percentage point. About one slowed edit in three has used "Super" or "Ultra" for two months running — a stable naming convention, not a spiral. Alongside it, Brazilian edit culture keeps a steady footprint: 79 of August's 2,368 newcomers carry "montagem" or "funk" in the title. For why these versions break ordinary music search at all, see our remix-culture analysis.

3. The first Chinese-language entry

«我期待 (DJ旋律版)» by 浪帝 is the first Mandarin-language track to reach our breakout list, arriving August 9. It's a "DJ 旋律版" — a Chinese club-edit convention that parallels the slowed/montagem scenes almost exactly: a familiar song, rebuilt for short-video pacing, circulating without the metadata that would make it findable. The recognition-demand pattern behind it is identical to what drives the Russian and Brazilian entries: you can't search lyrics you can't transcribe.

A Note on Platform Numbers

August's matched videos split as TikTok 1,851 · Instagram 1,062 · YouTube 935 · X/Twitter 307 · Douyin 151. We're deliberately not presenting a month-over-month platform comparison this edition: our YouTube extraction pipeline was degraded through most of July and restored at the start of August, so any apparent "YouTube growth" would be our own outage recovering, not a real shift in where people find music. We'd rather flag that than publish a chart-shaped artifact.

Methodology: figures from ClipMusic internal recognition logs, August 1–15, 2026: 12,570 recognition attempts, 9,461 successful matches, 4,306 videos matched, 2,368 first-seen tracks. Counts reflect user-initiated identifications, not streams. Version-type analysis is title-based and therefore conservative. See our About page for how we handle this data.
